William Shatner Hospitalized Following Reported Medical Scare
According to TMZ, William Shatner was taken to the hospital on Wednesday, September 24, after suffering a medical emergency.
The Star Trek legend, 94, reportedly contacted emergency services from his Los Angeles home that afternoon due to a blood sugar issue. He was later transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
A source told TMZ that the actor is now “resting comfortably.”
Us Weekly has reached out to Shatner’s team for additional comment.
Back in February, the actor—best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk—spoke with Us about his nightly routine. “I’ve got so many bad habits, like staying up far too late,” he admitted at the time.
“Sometimes I’ll record something earlier in the day to watch later, and before I know it, it’s two in the morning,” he continued. “The key, I think, is to get six or seven hours of sleep, ideally on a regular schedule.”
Shatner also reflected on the legacy of Star Trek, which originally debuted in 1966.
In addition to his work on Star Trek: The Original Series, Shatner starred in seven feature films, beginning with 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture and concluding with Star Trek Generations in 1994. He also directed and co-wrote Star Trek V: The Final Frontier in 1989.
Speaking about the franchise’s leap from television to cinema, he recalled: “Everyone wanted to expand the scale since we were moving from the small screen to the big screen. The script was based on a fascinating idea—a probe sent from Earth is intercepted by a machine planet, altered, and then sent back with the intent to destroy Earth.”
He called the premise both “wonderful” and “ahead of its time,” noting he could never have predicted the decades of films, spin-offs, and cultural impact that followed.
“Who could have known that 60 years later we’d still be talking about it?” Shatner said. “It’s extraordinary. I don’t think anything like it could be repeated in our lifetimes—it would take another piece of entertainment lasting six decades to compare.”
Most recently, Shatner was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 52nd Annual Saturn Awards.
“It’s a wonderful honor,” he told Us. “I’ve admired how the organization has grown over the years, and for them to acknowledge me with a lifetime achievement award is very special.”
